Hand to Hold

"What was that!!!!" shouts Finnlay on our walk around the block. "A big train horn" I replied, smiling at his enthusiasm. "Great", he replies and then chugga-chugs a few steps.

"Oh, I hear a big airplane!" shouting again at the top of his lungs. I watch him look up and all around to track down that plane.

"Hey, Mimi, look at the flowers!" we walk to the entrance of our development. The garden area is filled with vinca's of all colors and hues. He stops to smell the flowers and picks a few for me.

"Look, circles!" he excitedly points to the man-hole covers and then runs off to find squares.

"Hey, Mimi, bumpies!" as we walk along the sidewalk with bubble bumps for traction. (he loved to go over these in a stroller when he was smaller)

We continue our walk through the neighborhood finding circles and squares, blue one and red ones.
Stopping occasionally to see ants crossing  our path or watching birds flying overhead. Finnlay focusing on his discoveries and Wendy, our poodle and I walking quietly behind .

Turning a corner we walk beside a fence stretching the full side of a patio home. From the other side comes fierce barking and growling. Finnlay says nothing, he quietly comes to my side, reaches up and takes hold of my hand. We walk unhurriedly, hand in hand to the end of the fence. The barking subsides and away he goes exploring the next ant hill or rock or stick.

Powerful lesson, huh!

iPhones, iPads, internet . . oh my!

Do we take time to "Be still and know God"?

 know, ie: (dictionary.com)
1. to perceive or understand as fact or truth; to apprehend clearly and with certainty
2. to have established or fixed in the mind or memory
3. to be cognizant or aware of
4. be acquainted with (a thing, place, person, etc.), as by sight, experience, or report
5. to understand from experience or attainment

How can we know unless we are still?

How can we BE STILL?

We live in a constant state of distraction -
kids, work, schedules, TV, movies, internet, radio, Cd's, iPhones, texting, e-mails, iPads and the list goes on and on.

Is there a danger of becoming "hooked" on technology? Don't get me wrong. I love the technology and all the bene's that give me access to just about anything, anywhere, anyone at anytime.
But does this "access" reinforce the thinking;
"the world revolves around me, my needs, my friends, my enjoyment?"

Can our time be so filled with technology's busy-ness that we lack quiet time? Do we hear the bird's singing in the mornings? Do we feel the warm breezes,  see the beautiful flowers, the clouds floating by? Hear the sweet cadence of our loved one's voice or see the expressions ripple across their face?

Sorry, back to the subject - and then there's God. He (and all that HE is!) waits for us!
Incredibly, with no condemnation, not a frown, no huffiness, no guilt.  There is a patience, a smile, a longing to fill our hearts with His unfailing love, peace and wisdom.

Arms extended in invitation
A promise of healing and strength
Answers to our questions
A dancing partner in our joys
An encourager in our journey
A safe harbor from the storm

Come away from the noise, the screen and keypad and get to KNOW the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Now that's something to get "hooked" on!
